Sunday Oliseh Bags Prestigious IFAB Advisory Role

Date:

Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh has been appointed to the Advisory Football Panel of the International Football Association Board (IFAB)—the body responsible for determining and maintaining the Laws of the Game in world football.

Oliseh’s appointment was announced on Monday via his official account on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed his delight at joining one of football’s most influential global institutions.

“Thrilled to announce my appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB)!” Oliseh wrote.

“IFAB is the global guardian of football’s laws, responsible for determining the laws of football, shaping the beautiful game for players and fans worldwide.

“Honoured to contribute to its mission!”

The IFAB advisory panel is tasked with providing insights and recommendations that help shape the future of the sport.

Oliseh’s selection represents not only a personal milestone but also a significant recognition of African voices in global football governance.

Known for his football intelligence and outspoken advocacy for the sport’s development, Oliseh was part of FIFA’s Technical Study Group during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he provided analytical expertise alongside other global football minds.

His latest appointment further solidifies his growing reputation off the pitch as a respected voice in global football policy and regulation.

A legend of Nigerian football, Oliseh earned 55 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring four goals, and featured in both the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups.

He was also a key figure in Nigeria’s victorious squads at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and the historic 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where the country won gold in football.
