Bayer Leverkusen Signs Erik ten Hag on Two-Year Deal

Date:

German Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen have confirmed the appointment of Dutch tactician Erik ten Hag as their new head coach. The former Manchester United manager has signed a contract that will keep him at the BayArena until June 2027.

The club made the announcement on Monday through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating: “Let’s get started! Erik ten Hag signs with Bayer 04 as our new head coach until 2027!”

Ten Hag, 54, takes over from Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, who departed the club after guiding them to notable domestic success. The Dutchman was reportedly the frontrunner to replace Alonso and had been linked with the position for weeks leading up to the announcement.

Leverkusen clarified that the agreement spans two years, covering the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons. The appointment marks Ten Hag’s return to club management in Germany, having previously managed Bayern Munich II before stints at Ajax and Manchester United.

The Bundesliga outfit is banking on Ten Hag’s experience and tactical acumen to sustain the momentum built under Alonso, especially as they aim for deeper runs in European competitions and continued success in domestic tournaments.

Further details regarding Ten Hag’s coaching staff or transfer plans are yet to be disclosed.
