Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has categorically ruled out any political alliance ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, declaring that his political group, the Omoluabi Progressives, will pursue its ambitions independently.
Aregbesola made this statement on Sunday during a reception organised in Osogbo by the Omoluabi Progressives to celebrate his 68th birthday. Addressing supporters, he dismissed speculations of a potential coalition, stressing that his group would contest and win on its own merit.
“By this time next year, we will all be close to Abere (Osun Governor’s Office). May God make it so,” Aregbesola said. “We are not going to align with anyone. We are going to pursue our political interest separately. No alliance with anyone or group. By the grace of God, this group will win.”
The former governor also used the occasion to reflect on the value of maternal sacrifices, encouraging celebrants to always honour their mothers during birthdays. “Whether alive or late, birthday celebrations should be dedicated to prayers for mothers,” he advised.
In his remarks, Moshood Adeoti, former Secretary to the State Government under Aregbesola, urged members of the Omoluabi Progressives to stay united and committed to the group’s mission and values.
Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke at the event, Commissioner Biyi Odunlade commended Aregbesola’s contributions to Osun’s development. “You left a good template for good governance in Osun State that cannot be faulted. Your legacy is exemplary and remarkable,” he stated.
The well-attended event drew Omoluabi Progressives members, political allies from Lagos, and former appointees, signaling a growing momentum behind Aregbesola’s political structure as the 2026 election approaches.
