The opposition peoples democratic party PDP,in Kebbi state, on Friday rejected the ruling by a court of law in Birnin Kebbi which sent its state image maker ,Alhaji Sani Dododo to a custodial center in Birnin Kebbi.
State Chairman of the party,Alhaji Usman Bello Suru, in a press conference held at the party’s secretariat described the detention of mister Sani as an infringement to his fundamental human rights of free speech as provided in the Nigeria’s constitution ” the ruling to us was partial and target at silencing opposition voice in the state by forces of government”
Suru added that the party remains united and behind the detained member saying his radio programmes which was the genesis of the legal tussle had the full backing and support of the party “we rejected the ruling in its entirety and will not be cowed, as we have already gathered team of lawyers to challenge the ruling assuring that it will not stand” he said.
Recall that the PDP spokesperson was sued by a concerned resident in Kebbi state for alleged used of uncouth words against the governor of Kebbi and directly attacked his personality in one of his radio programmes in Birnin Kebbi.
However, in a swift reaction the Kebbi government through the chief press secretary to the governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, said that governor Idris has no hand in the issue saying one Usman Muhammed Anache was the one who sued the PDP spokesperson with no knowledge of the governor ” governor Idris is a democrat who believes in the rule of law and free speech he is not even aware of the case therefore has no hand in it “.
The statement added that the Kebbi government have distance itself from the case and urged good people of Kebbi state to disregard the claim ” go about your normal business and remain calm.
