President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other prominent figures are set to attend the coronation of the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko II, taking place today in Ilesa, Osun State.
Shola Oshunkeye, Chairman of the Coronation Media Committee, confirmed the attendance of Obasanjo, who arrived in Ilesa last night. He also disclosed that Atiku Abubakar and his wife are expected to attend, although they had not yet arrived at the time of the statement.
Oshunkeye further revealed that President Tinubu was invited through official channels and is expected to be present. However, should unforeseen circumstances arise, Vice President Kashim Shettima is poised to represent him at the event.
“Today, we are ready to receive high-profile Nigerians from within and outside the country for this historic coronation. Security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety and success of the event,” Oshunkeye stated.
The coronation marks a significant cultural milestone for the Ijesa people, with Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup ascending as their traditional ruler, continuing the legacy of the Owa Obokun throne. The event is anticipated to draw considerable attention both locally and nationally.
