Wike`s Aide Replies Egwu, Says Those Waiting For His Fall Will Wait Forever

Date:

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lere Olayinka, has declared that those anticipating the political downfall of Barr. Nyesom Wike, including former Ebonyi State Governor Dr. Sam Egwu, “will wait forever.”

Olayinka made the statement in response to Egwu’s recent remarks suggesting that Wike was “living on borrowed time” and that his political influence would soon fade. He described Egwu’s comments as “dripping with envy and bad faith,” asserting that unlike Egwu, Wike’s rise was not the result of political patronage but built on “personal hard work, dedication, commitment, and above all, the grace of God.”

“People like Dr. Egwu, who mismanaged their own political relevance, often assume that others will follow the same path,” Olayinka said.

He further criticized the faction of South-East leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) threatening to withdraw support from the party, pointing out that many of them, including Egwu, failed to deliver meaningful results during the 2023 general elections.

“Someone who couldn’t deliver for the PDP now wants to dictate illegal changes in the party’s leadership,” Olayinka said. “The PDP constitution clearly recognizes Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is a direct move to destabilize the party.”

Responding to Egwu’s challenge that Wike should facilitate the return of suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Olayinka called the statement “preposterous.”

“It is laughable that a former senator would insinuate that the FCT Minister wields the powers of the President and the National Assembly,” he said. “This is not just beer-parlor talk it exposes a deep-seated frustration over Wike’s continued political relevance.”

Olayinka concluded that while Egwu is entitled to his views, it is clear that “his utterances are shaped by regret and bitterness” over Wike’s success.
