American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is facing a $300,000 copyright infringement lawsuit for allegedly posting photographs from the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on her social media accounts without proper authorization.
According to Billboard, the lawsuit was filed by photographer Edwin Blanco and his agency, Backgrid, who claim Lopez used two of their images without permission. They are seeking $150,000 in damages for each photograph.
The photos in question were posted by Lopez on January 5, following her red carpet appearance in a white gown and faux fur coat. She captioned the post “GG Weekend Glamour,” and the images quickly went viral, widely shared by fans and media platforms.
The plaintiffs argue that Lopez used the photos for commercial purposes, tagging fashion designers and jewelry brands, thereby promoting her affiliations and brand partnerships.
“Ms Lopez’s unauthorised use of the Images is commercial in nature, intended for the purpose of self-promotion,” the lawsuit states. “She leveraged the publicity from the event to promote her fashion affiliations.”
The suit also notes that while her team had engaged in licensing negotiations, a formal agreement was never finalised.
This is not the first time Lopez has faced legal action over photo rights. She was previously sued in 2019 and 2020 for posting copyrighted images of herself without the photographers’ consent.
As of the time of this report, Lopez or her representatives have not issued an official statement regarding the lawsuit.
