Obi Donates ₦20 Million To Health, Education In Abuja

Date:

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, marked his return to Nigeria  after attending the inauguration of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, at the Vatican yesterday with a visit to the construction site of the Anglican Hospital in Kubwa, a medium-scale health facility currently being developed by the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa with a donation of N20 million.

Speaking on his arrival, Obi described the Pope’s message on the global fight against poverty as energising and deeply aligned with his long-held convictions.

“The Pontiff’s homily reaffirmed my belief that eradicating poverty requires deliberate sacrifice and consistent investment in critical development sectors – particularly health, education, and poverty alleviation,” he said.

He commended the vision and commitment of the Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Revd. Duke T. Akamisoko, and in support of the initiative, donated the sum of ₦10 million.

In continuation of his outreach, Obi also visited the Anglican Comprehensive Secondary School, also in Kubwa, which is owned and operated by the same diocese and donated another N10 million while emphasising the central role of education in national development.

The money he said to support the school’s growth and sustainability.

He added: “education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty remain the three most powerful tools for building a better society.

“I remain committed to promoting each of them, because they form the most effective path to securing a prosperous future for our children and for our country.”

Obi’s donations bring renewed attention to the pressing need for private and public investment in sectors that directly impact the well-being and productivity of Nigerians.
