Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been called upon to intervene in the security situation in the state by assisting the Police with logistics and patrol vehicles to fight crimes in Ondo State.
A social critic, Gbenga Adebayo, made the appeal on Tuesday in Akure, while commenting on the security situation in the state.
He state that the police needed some logistics and patrol vehicles to enhance their efficiency in fighting insecurity in state, calling on all stakeholders to assist the command.
Adebayo noted that it is known that kidnappers operating in different parts of the state used the forests as their hideouts, urging the governor to assist the police with all necessary logistics that would help them while combing the forests for the criminals.
He observed that with the performance of the current Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Wilfred Afolabi, with little support, he would force kidnappers to vacate the state.
According to Adebayo, “The State Government and other stakeholders in the state should assist the police with logistics and patrol vehicles to enable it comb most of the forests in the state while hunting for kidnappers and other criminals hiding in these forests.
“It’s so glaring that despite the lack of vehicles, the Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi, with his vibrant operatives, has reduced to the barest minimum the rate of crime in the state.”
Adebayo, who is also the publisher of MSC Africa magazine, commended the Commissioner of Police for releasing some of his official vehicles for his operatives to patrol and even leading patrols in the night to monitor his officers and the situations, which he described said as an uncommon feat.
He urged members of the pubic to always appreciate the efforts of the police, instead of demonizing them at the slightest opportunity.
According to him, “Everyone accuses the police of corruption, but we should know that there officers who are upright even though we can’t rule out presence of bad eggs in all organizations.
“I want to appeal to members of the public to always report suspicious elements around their vicinity to the police as these men are no magicians.”
Adebayo, who is also a police affairs journalist, presented an award to the state Police Commissioner, who he described as an asset to the force.
He said the Commissioner is endowed with skills in intelligence, risk and vulnerability operations, counter intelligence, protective operations and human management.
He, however, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his resolve to rid the state of crime in whatever guise.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police appreciated MSC Africa team for monitoring security situation in the state.
He promised that he and his officers would not relent on their oars until all criminals are chased out of the state.
