In a closely contested election held during the ongoing National Sports Festival, Henry Okorie has been re-elected as the Athletes’ Representative on the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
Okorie secured a commanding victory with 151 votes, defeating Nicholas Osihena, who received 103 votes, and Patience Okon-George, who garnered 72 votes.
With this result, Okorie becomes the first elected member of the new AFN board, reinforcing his influence and trust among Nigeria’s track and field athletes.
“I am deeply honoured by the trust my fellow athletes have placed in me. This victory is for all of us,” said Okorie after the announcement.
“Together, we will build a stronger voice and a brighter future for Nigerian athletics.”
Henry Okorie, a former 400m hurdles finalist at the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville, was also a key member of Nigeria’s 4x400m relay team, further underlining his experience and dedication to the sport.
