Ogun 2025 NSF: Rivers, Lagos Dominate Weightlifting on Day 2

Team Rivers and Team Lagos were the standout performers in the Weightlifting event on Day 2 of the ongoing Ogun 2025 National Sports Festival, clinching multiple gold medals across women’s and men’s categories.

Ruth Nyong of Rivers State showcased her strength by winning two gold medals — one in the snatch (75kg) and another in total lift (167kg) — and added a silver in the Clean & Jerk (92kg).

Delta’s Ebele Chukwu Vanessa Agbah stole the Clean & Jerk gold with a 93kg lift.

Lagos’ Quadri Zainab won silver in the snatch (72kg), while Kano’s Adamma Dorcas Anyimba earned two bronzes in snatch (71kg) and total (157kg). Ogun’s Monica Uweh took home bronze in Clean & Jerk (88kg).

African Games champion Omolola Onome Didih of Lagos claimed two gold medals — snatch (93kg) and total (205kg) — but had to settle for silver in Clean & Jerk after Theresa Daniel Okon of Akwa Ibom edged her out with a 113kg lift.

Kano’s Temidayo Jegede contributed two silvers (snatch and total) and one bronze (Clean & Jerk), while Lagos’ Joy Chima bagged two bronzes in snatch (71kg) and total (168kg).

2023 African Games gold medalist King Kalu of Cross River State dominated the category with three gold medals — snatch (94kg), Clean & Jerk (121kg), and total (215kg).

Bayelsa’s Elechi Nnadozie Elvis and Ekiti’s Abayomi Adeleye won silver and bronze respectively in the snatch, while Oyo’s Tobi Ishola and Bayelsa’s John Solomon shared medals in Clean & Jerk and total.

Emerging star Esther Amarachi Chijoke (Invited Junior Athletes) bagged two gold medals (Clean & Jerk – 82kg, Total – 146kg) and a silver in snatch (64kg).

Lagos’ Ronke Olarinoye won gold in the snatch (65kg) and bronze in total (140kg).

Rivers’ Christiana Alloma earned silver in Clean & Jerk (81kg) and total (142kg), and a bronze in snatch (61kg).
