Akinlayo Predicts Tinubu’s Re-election In 2027, Backs Oyebanji For Second Term

Date:

Hon. Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo, who represents Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed strong optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term in office come 2027.

Akinlayo also threw his weight behind Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, stating that the governor’s performance has been so outstanding that he deserves a re-election in 2027 without opposition.

In an interview granted in his office, the federal lawmaker addressed growing concerns around claims of marginalization in federal appointments. He dismissed the allegations, asserting that such complaints usually come from individuals who are not direct beneficiaries.

“President Tinubu has shown fairness in both appointments and project distribution across the country, regardless of the voting patterns in each region,” Akinlayo said.

“He has maintained a balance between the North and South. In fact, the North still holds the larger share of appointments. Those expressing dissatisfaction are likely those excluded from the current political arrangement,” he added.

Akinlayo maintained his belief in Tinubu’s political strength, insisting: “I have no doubt the President will return in 2027.”

Speaking on the deteriorating security situation in the country, the lawmaker called for a more innovative approach. He urged the federal government to prioritize the use of advanced technology in its counter-insurgency efforts and adopt a strategy that balances enforcement with dialogue.

“The current tactics have yielded limited results. The government must invest in tech-driven security, drones, surveillance systems, and data intelligence. We need to monitor dangerous zones like Sambisa forest effectively. Too many lives have been lost; it’s time we embrace modern solutions.”

In a separate comment, Akinlayo rejected a recent proposal by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which suggests allowing political parties to nominate replacements for legislators who resign or pass away mid-term.

He argued that such a policy could spark internal disputes and erode democratic principles.

“Letting party leaders select replacements without input from constituents undermines democracy. It would only fuel conflict within the parties and alienate voters,” he said.
