Davido Says He’d Be a Journalist If Not a Musician

Date:

Award-winning Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that if he had not pursued a career in music, he would have become a journalist.

In a recent interview with Atlanta’s 96.1 The Beat, which gained widespread attention on Thursday, the “With You” singer shared his passion for media engagement and communication. He noted that he enjoys marketing himself and engaging in conversations more than many of his peers in the music industry.

Davido said, “I like promo, I like conversations. A lot of people don’t know that I studied marketing apart from business management. I like to market myself, I love to talk. If I had a podcast, I talk for like three to four days [laughs].”

He further emphasized the importance of media interaction for artists, explaining that unlike many big artists who avoid press engagements, he enjoys talking and learning from people. “I just feel like it’s part of being an artist… When people meet me, I like to have conversations, I like to know things, I like information. Even at home, I’m also researching. If I wasn’t doing music, I would definitely be in journalism,” he said.

Davido also highlighted his strong work ethic, attributing his massive social media following to his dedication. “A lot of people in my position would just sit down and let everything work for them. People be asking me why I have the most followers, it’s because I’m working. I know how hard Beyonce will work with all the money she got.”

The interview sheds light on Davido’s multifaceted interests and his belief in the value of communication and hard work within the entertainment industry.
