The Nigeria Police Force has firmly denied viral social media claims alleging that one of its helicopters was used to deliver food supplies to armed bandits in Kogi State, calling the reports “misleading and false.”
In a press statement issued Tuesday and signed by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police clarified that the circulating video—allegedly showing a helicopter landing in a remote location—was in fact part of a legitimate security operation carried out in the Obajana axis of the state.
“Contrary to the misleading and false narrative suggesting that the aircraft was used to deliver food items to bandits, the Force categorically states that the video captures a legitimate security operation,” the statement read.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2025, was a joint effort involving police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters as part of an intensified campaign against violent crimes in the region. The helicopter’s role, according to the police, was to provide aerial surveillance and tactical support to ground forces.
Adejobi warned that the spread of unverified claims could undermine public trust in the Force and derail ongoing security efforts. He urged Nigerians to ignore the “unfounded and mischievous” narratives circulating online and instead rely on official channels for accurate updates on security matters.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians and will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance public safety and national security,” he stated.
The Force emphasized its resolve to maintain peace across all regions and reassured citizens of its dedication to transparency and accountability in security operations.
