The National Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHERSD) has officially released its guidelines for the election of its representative to the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), scheduled to hold on May 22, 2025, in Abuja.
In a statement signed by Secretary-General Franz Atare, the association outlined stringent eligibility criteria aimed at ensuring credibility and transparency in the selection process. Interested candidates must have been registered national members of NAPHERSD for at least four consecutive years and must have paid their annual dues consistently during that time.
Further, aspirants are expected to have participated in at least three of the last five national conferences or congresses hosted by the association. A non-refundable expression of interest form, priced at N150,000, must be obtained and payment made to the association’s FCMB account number 4788216018.
A unique condition applies to candidates currently serving on the board of any sports federation. Such individuals must resign from their current roles and submit a detailed stewardship report before becoming eligible to contest for the NAPHERSD slot.
Additionally, the association’s Executive Committee (EXCO) has reserved the “right of first refusal” for serving executives, suggesting preference may be given to those already holding leadership positions within the association if they meet all stipulated requirements.
The application process will close at midnight on May 18, 2025, and all submissions must be made electronically to naphersd@outlook.com. Specific details regarding the Abuja election venue will be announced in due course.
This development is seen as a crucial step in ensuring fair representation of NAPHERSD on the AFN board as the athletics federation prepares for a new administrative cycle.
