The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has declared that Abuja has undergone remarkable transformation under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with several major infrastructure projects completed and scheduled for inauguration to mark the President’s second year in office.
Wike, who spoke during an inspection of the Gishiri road project on Saturday, said the Tinubu administration has brought renewed hope and happiness to residents through purposeful leadership and delivery of critical infrastructure.
“What makes us happy is when people are happy, because at the end of the day, we are working for the people,” Wike said.“I’ve said it before, leadership is a major issue. When you have the right leadership, people will benefit from it. Mr. President has shown that he is willing to change. He is willing to provide happiness for the people and indeed, the Renewed Hope Agenda is working.”
The minister commended the Chinese construction giant, CGC, for fulfilling its promise of delivering key roads in time for the President’s anniversary celebration, noting that the OSEX II to Wassa junction road and the Gishiri axis are now ready for inauguration.
“I commend the contractor, CGC, for fulfilling their promise that these roads will be ready for inauguration in this second year anniversary of Mr. President. The road has been completed and they are merely marking the roads,” Wike stated.
Highlighting the progress at the Gishiri road site, Wike said the contractor had kept to its word to complete the asphalting before the next inspection.
“Today we are here, you can really see that it is different, which means before the end of the month, everything would have been concluded. I am happy to be identified with the leadership of Mr. President and that is what Nigeria needs.”
He listed some of the projects slated for inauguration by President Tinubu as part of his second anniversary, including: Gishiri Road Project; OSEX II to Wassa Junction dual carriageway; The renovated International Conference Centre; The M5 Road Project (executed by Julius Berger); Abuja Greater Water Supply Project; and Several roads across city and satellite towns.
“It will take us about two weeks to inaugurate most of our projects,” he noted, emphasizing that both urban and rural communities are benefiting from the development drive.
On what lies ahead for FCT residents, Wike assured that more impactful projects are on the way.
“We have countless things that will make them happy. So many projects are coming up. We are going to provide water for the satellite towns in Bwari, Karu, Kubwa, and so on. More roads, more renovations of schools, and particularly, improved security,” the minister revealed.
He called on residents to take ownership of public infrastructure, urging vigilance and community participation in protecting public assets.
“People should own all projects… they should make sure it is protected. It is not easy to build, but it is easy to destroy,” he said.
“We will do everything we can to ensure that the infrastructure provided is protected and the sustainability of it is there.”
Wike expressed gratitude to God for granting President Tinubu the wisdom to lead and deliver democratic dividends, asserting that no one could deny the visible improvements in the capital city.
“Mr. President has given first-class infrastructure to Abuja. All of you can attest to the fact that indeed, Abuja has really changed,” Wike added.
“We are happy that we have fulfilled the promises that we have made.”
