Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has spoken out following his recent arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged involvement in money laundering.
In a video that has since gone viral, VDM revealed that the EFCC is still in possession of his mobile phone, which he claims was used to access his private accounts and data. “My phone is currently with the EFCC,” he said. “They didn’t just keep it—they logged me out of my iCloud account, meaning they now have access to everything on that phone, including many videos and pieces of evidence.”
VDM expressed concern that the anti-graft agency might release an image of him with a caption suggesting he is involved in money laundering, without providing full context. “If you post that picture claiming it’s about money laundering, then you should also release the full context behind it,” he warned.
The activist made it clear that such an act could lead to legal action. “If I see my picture on your website with a caption suggesting money laundering, you’ll have to prove it. That’s where our issue will begin—and we will settle it in court,” he stated, suggesting that it could become “the first open court case of its kind.”
VDM also offered a sarcastic olive branch to the EFCC, saying, “I want us to start a friendship,” but insisted it must be based on truth and transparency. He further stated that while he has replaced his seized phone, he doubts the EFCC will ever return the original. “Even if they do, the phone is as good as gone,” he said.
The EFCC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations raised in VDM’s video.
