Getafe midfielder Chrisantus Uche has reportedly received his first invitation to the Super Eagles, marking a major milestone in the 21-year-old’s promising career.
Uche, who has been a standout performer in his debut La Liga season, has impressed with his creativity and work rate at the Spanish top-flight side.
Operating mostly as a false No. 9, he has scored three goals in 30 appearances this term and is now set to don the green and white of Nigeria.
His invitation comes as part of preparations for the upcoming Unity Cup invitational tournament in London, where Nigeria will face Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Uche is also expected to be part of the squad that will travel to Moscow for a friendly against Russia early next month.
In a post shared on Instagram, Uche expressed his gratitude and determination:
“Never give up, learn, grow, and become stronger. As the saying goes, ‘fall seven times, stand up eight.'”
Uche’s rise has been meteoric—having climbed from the lower leagues in Spain to becoming one of Getafe’s most reliable performers.
He is also in contention for the 2024/25 SPORTY LaLiga MVP award.
Despite his recent form, the dynamic midfielder was absent from Getafe’s 3-0 loss to Valencia at the weekend.
However, his national team call-up serves as a reminder of his growing influence.
Meanwhile, sources at Lapalabras have revealed that players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will also be included in the upcoming Super Eagles squad, reflecting Coach Eric Chelle’s intent to blend local and international talents in the team’s rebuild.
