Nasarawa 2027: AGNP Throws Weight Behind Ex-IGP Adamu’s Governorship Bid

Date:

Allied Group of Nasarawa Professionals (AGNP), a coalition of formal and informal traders, on Friday threw their weight in support of former Inspector – General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who declared to contest the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.

The coalition is convinced of the former IG`s pledge to run an inclusive, people-centered administration if elected the next governor of the state.

Recall, the former police chief had announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship poll during a State Working Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lafia.

Adamu told the gathering that his decision was driven by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa who trust in his leadership and governance experience.

A statement released from AGNP state headquarters in Keffi, said Adamu’s entry into the race marks “a moment of renewed hope” for the state, recalling that Adamu`s tenure as Police Chief showed “visionary reforms that significantly impacted the country’s security landscape.”

Some of these reforms the coalition explained include focus on community policing, intelligence-led security strategies, and the adoption of technology in law enforcement.

It considered these as strong indicators of the former IG`s capacity for transformational leadership, even as it pledged to mobilize at least one million votes in his support.

According to the statement, the group had, during its monthly congress, conducted a thorough assessment of the leadership profiles of various aspirants before arriving at its decision to support Adamu.

“These are the kind of strategic, actionable, and inclusive policies we need at the state level,” the statement read.

Beyond his security background, the AGNP highlighted Adamu’s extensive experience in public service, humanitarian work, and development planning.

It also noted the former police Boss leadership style as rooted in discipline, service, and strategic execution qualities which it believes are essential for Nasarawa’s progress.

“Though we are a non-partisan body, we boldly affirm that Mohammed Adamu is the most credible and prepared candidate to succeed the current governor,” the statement continued.

The AGNP further called on All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider giving its 2027 gubernatorial ticket to “a square peg in a square hole” such as Adamu “whose leadership would ensure continuity in infrastructure and economic development across the state.

Leadership and governance are collective responsibilities. We believe that with Mohammed Adamu, Nasarawa will witness a new dawn of purposeful development.”
