The Yobe State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm of government to regulate the business of metal scavengers, popularly known as “Jari Bola”.
The motion was presented by Hon. Zanna Baba Gana, representing Bursari constituency, who highlighted the risks associated with the business, including increased crimes such as stealing and vandalism of public and private properties.
The assembly noted that some states have banned the business, and urged the government to establish a committee to investigate and regulate the activities of metal scavengers in Yobe State.
The motion was supported by several members, who emphasized the need to protect properties and prevent crimes in the state.
The assembly’s call for regulation aims to address the security concerns and mitigate the negative impacts of the Jari Bola business in Yobe State.
