Steps taken by the Finnish government in the investigation of Simon Ekpa, self-acclaimed prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) has been described as a “transnational repression case for economic gain.”
Ngozi Orabueze, BRGIE, Chief of Staff, in a statement to lapalabras.com on Wednesday, called for the respect of Ekpa`s fundamental human rights, as the body frowned at what it described as the unholy romance between Finland and Nigeria in the matter.
It observed that the 6 months investigation into Ekpa`s activities by Finland Central Criminal Police only resulted in the police declaring BRGIE a terrorist group, as it wondered “Who designated the terrorist group? Is it the Nigeria state that has been designated as the deadliest country for Christians to live in with several reports of human rights abuses, forceful disappearances of indigenous Biafrans or is it Finland that did the designation?
“On whose behalf did Finland conduct this large scale terrorist investigation? How many Biafrans in the Biafra Republic Government In Exile currently transformed to the United States of Biafra (USB) Government which spearheads anything concerning the independence of Biafra did Finland interview? To date, there’ is no record of interview of any of the cabinet members of the new nation of Biafra government
“Who were those involved? Was it those innocent Biafrans whose bank accounts were labeled as terrorist sponsors and closed by Nigeria President Tinubu and Christopher Musa or the purported accusation that Biafrans are sponsoring terrorism?
Who did Finland investigate and talk to in Nigeria?. Which international organization confirms Finlands labeling of innocent Biafrans as terrorists?”
It added that the mention of the case by Alexandria Stubb, the current President of Finland, “not only undermines the integrity and sincerity of Finland, but also exposes the dark side of the Finland government to secretly collude, enhance and validate a terrorist state such as Nigeria in exchange for economic gains.
“When has the freedom of Biafrans and self determination turned to a wide scale terrorist investigation by Finland President Alex Stubb and Defence Chief of Nigeria Christopher Musa. This false allegation can not be allowed to thrive.
It cited that Finland Chief investigator had claimed that the case has been investigated together with the Nigerian authorities, as the public incitement and the consequences of the terrorist group’s activities are suspected to have occurred in Nigeria.
“Simon Ekpa is a Biafran and leads over 50 million Biafran citizens that voted for a self referendum, converged in Finland and declared their independence on November 29th, 2024. How and on what ground does Finland and Otto Hitunan with Alex Stubb equate Biafra People’s freedom and Self determination with incitement and terrorist act? it quoted the Finnish authorities to have said.
BRGIE called for proof showing that four persons were financing terrorism, adding hat the continued detention and violation of Simon Ekpas fundamental human right by Finland should be condemned by all.
It called for the speedy release from detention of Ekpa and others in detention for agitating for self determination.
