Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Awujoola, has called on the inner circle of the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, to offer wise counsel that promotes peace, unity, and development in Oyo town.
Speaking during a Jumat service at the Awujoola Central Mosque, Saabo, on Friday, the cleric urged the Oyo-Meesi, High Chiefs, and other close aides of the monarch to prioritise honest and constructive guidance that will help Oba Owoade succeed in his historic role as the unifying leader of the Yoruba people.
“Sheikh Awujoola stressed that the Alaafin’s emergence—three years after the passing of the revered Oba Lamidi Adeyemi—was divinely ordained and widely celebrated across the state.”
“As we celebrate the emergence of our royal father, who is now the father of all, there is a need to seek Allah’s guidance for him,” Awujoola said. “Kabiyesi will need our advice and collective prayers, but as a people, we should also do this with the fear of Allah.”
He warned against the influence of sycophants and self-seekers who could mislead the monarch, urging sincerity and truthfulness from those privileged to have the king’s ear.
According to him, unity must be placed above personal interests, especially at a time when Oyo town is poised to regain its cultural prominence under the leadership of Oba Owoade.
The cleric also commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for supporting the monarch’s emergence and urged continued collaboration between the traditional institution and the state government.
Awujoola concluded by expressing hope that with divine guidance and community support, the new Alaafin would restore the town’s historical pride and strengthen its position as a central pillar of Yoruba heritage.
