Sanwo-Olu’s 13 Nominees Cleared by Lagos Assembly After Screening

Date:

The Lagos State House of Assembly has confirmed 13 nominees presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for appointment into key agencies across the state.

The confirmation took place during Friday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, following the adoption of a screening report presented by the House Ad hoc Committee on Screening of Nominees.

The speaker, citing Section 192 (Part II), Chapter 6 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), declared the nominees approved after a unanimous voice vote by lawmakers present. Obasa commended the committee, led by Hon. Fatai Mojeed (Ibeju-Lekki I), for conducting what he described as a “thorough and diligent screening process.”

“All nominees have been deemed competent and capable of serving in public office,” Obasa said during the plenary, emphasizing the importance of merit and credibility in public appointments.

The confirmed nominees include Prince Taoreed Ojora as a member of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). For the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Mr Abimbola Odubiyi was confirmed as Chairman (Non-Executive), alongside Mr Tunde Gbajumo (Member, Non-Executive), Dr Animashaun Fouad (CEO/Executive Member), Mr Kofo Olokun (Executive Member), and Mr Oluwaseun Fadare (Executive Member).

Others confirmed include members of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission: Mrs Bolade Dapo-Thomas, Mr Lasisi Fatai, Mr Olatunji Afolabi, Mr Adekoya Rufus, and Mr Lateef Yahaya.

Also reappointed to the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) Governing Council were Mr Jide Badmos and Ms Yinka Shitta-Bey.

Presenting the committee’s report, Mojeed said all nominees were found qualified and met the constitutional requirements. He noted that the committee engaged with each nominee, reviewed their credentials, and ensured they were suitable for their respective roles.

The appointments are expected to bolster governance and service delivery in key sectors including electricity regulation, civil service administration, electoral oversight, and legal aid.
