Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday flagged off the dualisation of the Akure-Idanre Road, promising that no road project would be left uncompleted under his administration.
The 10-kilometre road project, launched at the Arakale-Oke-Aro Junction in Akure, marks a key milestone in Aiyedatiwa’s infrastructure development drive, which he said aligns with one of his core campaign promises.
“This project stands as a powerful testimony to the resolve of our administration to build an Ondo State where opportunities are not just promised but are accessible, a place where every citizen can thrive in an environment of progress and shared prosperity,” Aiyedatiwa stated at the ceremony.
Designed to accommodate heavy traffic, the upgraded road will feature a 28-metre wide carriageway, solar-powered streetlights, and modern traffic management systems. The governor described the road as a “critical economic artery” that has long suffered from congestion and safety issues due to its outdated design.
“For what has seemed like an eternity, this road has been a source of daily frustration for commuters and a bottleneck for the movement of agricultural produce from Idanre to Akure’s markets. Today, we begin to change that story,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The project is part of the state’s broader 7-point development plan, dubbed “OUR EASE,” and is expected to bolster tourism—particularly to the famous Idanre Hills—while also stimulating economic activity, improving connectivity, and creating jobs.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Olawoye Abiola, commended Aiyedatiwa for his focus on impactful development, saying the project is a strategic intervention in transportation and safety.
“This is a clear demonstration of a commitment to long-term growth. The road will meet current needs and support future expansion,” Abiola said, assuring residents that the construction would be completed on schedule and to high standards.
Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the community, calling the flag-off “a remarkable and unforgettable day” for residents both home and abroad.
