The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was thrown into a major shock on Wednesday as the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, defected from PDP to All Progressive Council (APC).
The decision was reached following a closed door meeting of party members of the People’s Democratic Party and appointees as well as in Government House, Delta State.
Speaking to journalists after the closed door meeting, Senator James Manager and Commissioner of Public Enlightenment, Mr Charles Aniagwu revealed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has decamped from PDP to APC to further deepen the relationship with the government at the Federal level.
In the same vein, former Delta State governor and running mate of Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, Ifeanyi Okowa, has dumped the PDP.
In a video online, Okowa, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP in the 2023 Presidential Election informed his constituents that they are moving away from PDP.
“Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction; we will take the best direction, the best path for our people,” he said.
The former Delta governor defected alonside his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori and others after an enlarged meeting of the party attended by stakeholders in Asaba on Wednesday.
This was after the entire structure of PDP in Delta state has been collapsed into the APC
