Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has responded to the viral backlash over his recent grammatical error, where he mispronounced “kudos” as “kundusi.”
In a trending video shared on Tuesday, the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) addressed the criticisms, saying he may not be fluent in English but has raised successful and well-educated children.
“I’m not educated, but I trained my children well,” he said.
“They are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. If you come out to express yourself beside my children, I’m not sure you can beat them.”
MC Oluomo used the opportunity to recount his journey in the transport union, stating that he rose through the ranks from a bus conductor to becoming the national president of the NURTW.
“I started as a bus conductor, then treasurer of a unit, unit chairman, branch treasurer, branch chairman, state chairman, and now national president,” he said.
“I worked hard to get here.”
The viral moment, which sparked widespread online mockery, came when MC Oluomo attempted to commend the efforts of union members in Abuja but mistakenly said “kundusi” instead of “kudos.”
Despite the laughter and memes that followed, Akinsanya appeared unfazed.
“‘Kundusi’? What happened? Grammar is too much in this country,” he remarked.
“Grammar won’t fix Nigeria. I may not know English, but I understand Yoruba very well.”
In a humorous twist, MC Oluomo questioned why people were so amused by his slip, saying the mispronunciation was harmless — even linking it to his child’s name.
“So they are mocking me for saying ‘kundusi’? Is my child not Qudus?” he quipped. “You, that you are educated — what have you achieved?”
Reactions on social media have been split. While many found the incident amusing, others have defended MC Oluomo, praising his transparency and resilience.
“He’s not claiming to be what he’s not,” one user tweeted.
“He made his money, trained his kids, and climbed the ranks — that’s more than many can say.”
