Peter Okoye Blames Fans for PSquare Breakup at AYLIVE Show

Date:

Afrobeats star Peter Okoye has stirred fresh conversation around the 2017 breakup of iconic Nigerian music duo PSquare, claiming that fans’ constant comparisons and favoritism were major contributors to the group’s collapse.

Speaking at the AYLIVE show in Lagos, Peter didn’t hold back as he pointed fingers at the public for fueling the ego clashes that eventually tore the brothers apart.

“Fans are the reasons PSquare no dey together today,” Peter said during his performance. “Two brothers dey do one thing, ona dey talk say one better pass one, e con enter one head, he begin misbehave. If ona like make ona dey go house, I no send una.”

PSquare, made up of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, was one of Africa’s most celebrated musical duos. Known for their energetic performances and global Afrobeats hits like “Bizzy Body”, “E No Easy”, and “Personally”, they dominated the African music scene for over a decade.

The duo officially parted ways in 2017 after years of reported internal tensions involving family, creative control, and finances. Much of the fallout was also linked to management issues with their older brother, Jude Okoye, who previously oversaw their PClassic label operations.

While fans have long speculated about the reasons behind the breakup, Peter’s recent comments offer a more direct and personal perspective, highlighting the emotional toll of public scrutiny on their family dynamics.

As of now, the brothers have pursued solo careers, with Peter performing under the name Mr. P and Paul as Rudeboy. Despite occasional calls for a reunion, no official plans have been announced.
