Ndidi’s Leicester Future Uncertain After Foxes Relegation

Date:

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi faces an uncertain future at Leicester City following the club’s relegation from the English Premier League after a 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

The defeat at the King Power Stadium sealed the Foxes’ fate, ending a turbulent campaign that saw them slip out of the top flight despite a late-season push.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the decisive goal 14 minutes from time, helping the Reds edge closer to a record-equalling 20th English title, while condemning Leicester to the Championship.

Ndidi, who missed several matches during the season due to injury, featured in 24 games and provided four assists.

His contributions were not enough to keep the 2015/16 champions afloat, and speculation has mounted over his potential departure.

Even before the drop, the 28-year-old midfielder had attracted interest from several European clubs.

Turkish champions Galatasaray, French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring his situation closely.

Last summer, Ndidi was linked with a move to Barcelona but ultimately signed a new contract with Leicester, extending his stay at the club until 2027.

However, with the team now relegated, he is expected to part ways with the club during the upcoming transfer window.

Ndidi remains one of Leicester’s most valuable assets, having played a key role in their recent successes.

He was instrumental in the club’s FA Cup triumph in the 2020/21 season—the first in Leicester’s history—and also helped them secure the FA Community Shield shortly thereafter.

In the 2023/24 campaign, he played a pivotal role in Leicester’s return to the Premier League, scoring four goals and assisting five in 32 appearances as the Foxes clinched the Championship title.

With his future hanging in the balance, all eyes will now be on Ndidi and where his next move will take him as the summer transfer window approaches.
