The Movement for the Emancipation of Nigeria (MEN) has condemned the recent wave of killings in Plateau State, describing them as “genocidal attacks” and accusing federal and state authorities of complicity through inaction.
In a press briefing held at Silk Suites, Zarmaganda, Jos, MEN expressed solidarity with victims of the coordinated attacks in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas, where over 99 people were killed and dozens of villages destroyed in recent weeks.
MEN called for the immediate establishment of a Plateau-wide community vigilante system, enforcement of long-ignored judicial reports, and the reclamation of 64 communities allegedly taken over by terrorists.
“The violence in Plateau is not a farmer-herder clash.
“It is a systematic ethnic cleansing project,” said Solomon Dalung, Comrade-General of MEN, who issued the statement on behalf of the group.
“Each unpunished massacre becomes a license for the next.”
MEN also raised alarm over the presence of ISWAP terrorist cells in Plateau, citing recent arrests by security forces in Shendam LGA.
The group warned that the infiltration of jihadist insurgents into the Middle Belt could escalate the crisis into a full-blown terror war.
Citing Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s revelation that terrorists had overtaken dozens of communities in the state, MEN criticised what it called the government’s “willful silence” and the failure to prosecute individuals previously indicted by commissions of inquiry.
The group further questioned a recent “peace condition” declared by a pro-Fulani gathering in Kaduna, describing it as “extortion veiled in ethnic entitlement,” and condemned the venue of the meeting as suspicious.
“If they are from Plateau, why meet in Kaduna?” MEN asked.
MEN concluded its briefing with a call to action, urging oppressed Nigerians across tribal and religious lines to unite in defense of truth and justice.
“Peace is not a gift from government — it is a right of the people,” the statement read.
MEN pledged to monitor the situation and declared its unwavering support for the people of Plateau. “We will speak. We will stand. And we will not be silenced.”
