The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 40 suspected internet fraudsters in coordinated operations carried out across Bida and Minna Local Government Areas of Niger State.
According to a statement from the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, the arrests followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to various forms of online fraudulent activities.
During the raid, operatives recovered a wide range of items believed to be connected to the suspects’ operations. These include three cars, eight power generating sets, 10 motorcycles, eight laptops, 60 Android phones, four Bluetooth speakers, one Hisense air conditioner, and two power stabilizers.
In addition to electronic and transport equipment, operatives also discovered fetish items at the scene. These included three calabashes adorned with feathers, traditionally made soap and sponge, a bottle of hot drink, 20 cowries, a waist bead, and four women’s underwear—raising further suspicions about the methods used in the alleged cybercrimes.
The EFCC confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
This development underscores the agency’s continued efforts to clamp down on cybercrime and bring perpetrators to justice, especially among youths engaging in fraudulent practices under the guise of internet-based businesses.
