Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, has raised the alarm over an attack on her family residence in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State by unidentified armed men.
In a statement issued on Thursday by her media team in Abuja, the lawmaker revealed that the gunmen stormed and vandalised her grandfather’s house on Tuesday night. The attack was, however, swiftly repelled by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and vigilant community members.
“Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima to inspect locations for upcoming projects that I attracted to my senatorial district. The unknown gunmen assumed I was the one in town and attacked my family’s house that night,” the statement read.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed that no one was harmed during the attack and that a formal report has been made to the police area command.
The statement further called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate the senator’s security detail, which had previously been withdrawn. The senator’s media team emphasized that her efforts to serve her constituency should not be met with intimidation or violence.
“The public is urged to remain calm and support the pursuit of justice,” the statement concluded.
This incident comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi State and follows recent reports of increased threats to public officials in the region.
