Ogun Promises Historic National Sports Festival as Abiodun Launches Mascot, Song

Date:

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday night unveiled the official mascot, logo, and theme song for the 2024 National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in the state from May 16 to 30, 2025.

Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor made the announcement at a colourful ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. He pledged that Ogun would deliver “the most memorable, most inclusive, and most inspiring National Sports Festival Nigeria has ever seen.”

Highlighting the state’s readiness to host the event nearly two decades after its last stint, Abiodun stated that major investments have been made in upgrading sports infrastructure and building new world-class facilities that will serve as a lasting legacy beyond the festival.

“These facilities will not only serve the 2024 Festival but will stand as a symbol of our commitment to sports tourism and excellence,” he said. “Our goal is to establish Ogun State as a prime destination for sporting activities in Nigeria.”

The newly unveiled theme song, composed by Dr. Bayo Adepetun, and the mascot, created by a team from the Ministry of Culture, were described by the governor as rich in rhythm and reflective of the energy and cultural heritage of the people of Ogun.

Governor Abiodun commended the dedication of the athletes, coaches, and technical teams preparing for the competition, affirming the state’s full support for its representatives.

He also called on all stakeholders — including parents, residents, the media, and partners from the public and private sectors — to join efforts in ensuring a successful and unforgettable edition of the National Sports Festival.

“To all Nigerians, mark your calendars, plan your trips, and prepare to witness history. From May 16 to 30, the heartbeat of Nigerian sports will be right here in Ogun State,” he declared.

The governor also praised the Local Organising Committee, led by Dr. Kweku Tandoh and supported by Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission, for their commitment to delivering a seamless festival.

Abiodun emphasised the unifying power of sports, stating that the festival would serve not only as a competition but also as a platform for discovering talent and promoting national unity.
