Alaafin of Oyo Appoints New Chief of Staff, Elevates Osuntola to Special Adviser

Date:

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has announced the appointment of Mr. Bayo Ajibade as his new Chief of Staff, while the former Chief of Staff, Mr. Rotimi Osuntola, has been elevated to the role of Special Adviser to the throne.

This development was confirmed in an official statement released by Osuntola on Wednesday, titled “Re: My New Role as Special Adviser to His Imperial Majesty, The Alaafin of Oyo.”

Osuntola, who served as Chief of Staff from January to early April 2025, expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him and pledged continued loyalty to the Alaafin and the Oyo Kingdom.

“It is with deep humility that I formally acknowledge and accept the new responsibility bestowed upon me by His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye,” the statement read. “It’s indeed a privilege to serve the throne of Oyo in any capacity His Majesty deems fit.”

He reflected on his role in the early days of Oba Owoade’s ascension, noting that he had offered financial, intellectual, and moral support to help shape the new administration and ensure a smooth transition.

Osuntola congratulated Ajibade on his new role, calling on all Oyo indigenes at home and abroad to rally behind the new Chief of Staff. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the vision of the Alaafin and promoting the growth of Oyo and Yoruba land.

“I shall continue to serve the Alaafin, the Oyo Kingdom, and the Yoruba nation with the same dedication and sincerity that has guided me thus far,” he said.

The appointments mark a significant step in strengthening the leadership structure of the Oyo Palace under Oba Owoade’s reign, as the monarch continues to consolidate his court and define his royal agenda.
