A 400-level Mathematics student of the University of Ilorin, Kazeem Sanusi, has set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Mathematics Lesson, delivering a lecture that lasted 31 hours, 42 minutes, and 54 seconds.
According to a statement released by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the record-breaking event, which took place on campus on Tuesday, shattered the previous record of 26 hours of continuous teaching.
The historic feat was witnessed by officials from the Guinness World Records and drew applause from an enthusiastic crowd, including top university management. Among those present were the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN); Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Adegboyega Fawole; Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla; Dean of Physical Sciences, Professor Abdullahi Alafara Baba; Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Alex Akanmu; and the Student Union President, Comrade Victor Agezeh.
Sanusi’s lesson marathon is now awaiting official certification from Guinness World Records.
Congratulating the record-setter, Vice Chancellor Egbewole described the accomplishment as a source of immense pride for the university. “Kazeem’s feat is a testament to the academic excellence we uphold at UNILORIN. We are proud of him and will continue to support students in pursuing their passions,” he said.
He added that the university remains committed to providing an enabling environment that nurtures talent and encourages students to reach new heights in their academic and personal pursuits.
Sanusi’s achievement has already begun to inspire fellow students, who see it as a shining example of what dedication and hard work can produce.
