Court Grants Portable N1m Bail in Saheed Osupa Defamation Case

Date:

An Upper Area Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has granted controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, bail in the sum of ₦1 million following his arraignment on multiple charges, including criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and inciting public disturbance.

Portable was docked on Monday in connection with a suit filed against him over defamatory comments allegedly made against Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa.

In its ruling, the court imposed strict bail conditions, requiring the provision of two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the second must be a property owner with a valid Certificate of Occupancy in a Government Reserved Area (GRA).

The charges against Portable include criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and the use of social media platforms to cyberstalk and malign the reputation of the veteran Fuji star.

The prosecution alleged that Portable’s actions not only disrespected Osupa but also stirred tension within the entertainment industry and among fans.

The case, which has sparked significant public interest, particularly on social media, has been adjourned for further hearing.

This development marks the latest in a string of controversies involving Portable, who has developed a reputation for stirring up legal and public drama both online and offline.
