Controversial activist VeryDarkMan has vowed to sponsor the production of a new video for Eedris Abdulkareem’s song “Tell Your Papa,” which was recently banned by the Nigerian government. The song, which was flagged by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for being “inappropriate and offensive,” has now gained significant attention, following the government’s move to suppress it.
The Federal Government banned the protest song on Thursday, citing its content as offensive. However, the action has resulted in the song being propelled into the limelight, with many Nigerians now paying attention to its critical message. In response, VeryDarkMan, known for his outspoken views on social justice issues, has taken to social media to express his support for the song and its message.
In a video shared via his social media platforms, VeryDarkMan criticized the government’s decision to ban the song, which calls attention to the hardships Nigerians are facing, especially under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In the song, Abdulkareem specifically addresses Seyi Tinubu, the son of the president, urging him to inform his father about the growing suffering among the people and the escalating insecurity in the country.
VeryDarkMan, who expressed his disapproval of the government’s censorship, said, “The government doesn’t want to hear it on the stations, and they know he is saying the truth. Isn’t there hardship in the country? Aren’t people dying from insecurity?” He emphasized that the ban only reinforced the validity of the song’s message, which resonates with many Nigerians.
Taking a defiant stance, VeryDarkMan promised to sponsor a new video for the song, which will be distributed through social media platforms, bypassing the traditional media channels. “We are going to shoot another video. This time, we will sponsor it. I will be in the video. We will also look for Tinubu’s lookalike since we can’t get the President to be in the video,” he stated, hinting at the creation of a sequel to the banned song titled “Tell Your Papa 2.”
VeryDarkMan further explained that the aim of the new video is not only to highlight the country’s ongoing struggles but also to challenge the government’s attempt to suppress voices of dissent. “The government listens to what is going on in Nigeria but they don’t want to act. Then when you talk, they want to control the media so that you don’t have a voice,” he added.
The proposed video shoot is expected to gain significant traction, as social media continues to be a powerful tool for activists and content creators to bypass government restrictions. Abdulkareem’s song, despite its ban, is gaining momentum as it taps into the frustrations of many Nigerians who feel unheard and powerless in the face of widespread economic difficulties and insecurity.
The collaboration between VeryDarkMan and Abdulkareem is likely to further fuel conversations about censorship, freedom of expression, and the growing political unrest in Nigeria.
