The newly appointed Commissioner of Police at the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos, Ronke Okunade, has officially assumed duty, becoming the 31st CP to head the Unit.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Unit’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ovie Ewhubare, who confirmed that Okunade took over office on Wednesday, April 10, following the retirement of CP Godwin Omodeinde on April 4.
According to Ewhubare, the leadership transition marks a continued effort in strengthening the fight against financial crimes and enhancing professionalism within the PSFU.
A native of Ogbomosho North Local Government Area of Oyo State, CP Okunade holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Ibadan. She joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has since served in various strategic and operational roles across the country.
Her career spans postings such as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Apapa and Apata Divisions, Acting Area Commander in Ebute Meta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Admin in Cross River and at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos. Prior to her appointment, she served as CP in charge of General Investigation at FCID Annex, Lagos.
A well-rounded officer, CP Okunade has undertaken numerous professional trainings both locally and internationally. These include courses in community policing, human rights, strategic leadership, and criminology management. She is also a Fellow of the National Institute for Security Studies.
Upon assumption of duty, CP Okunade was warmly welcomed by officers and staff of the Unit. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the opportunity to serve in the new role.
She reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining professionalism, enforcing the law without bias, and strengthening collaboration with the public and stakeholders in tackling economic and financial crimes.
