In a surprising turn of events, actress and businesswoman Liz Anjorin has responded with grace and respect after veteran gospel singer Tope Alabi refused to perform at her surprise birthday event, despite a N2.5 million payment arranged by Anjorin’s fans in the diaspora.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sunday Scoop, Anjorin expressed that the incident would not alter her admiration for Alabi. “I have a lot of projects I am working on for me to be dwelling on what my sister (Alabi) has done. It has nothing to do with my personal life. People that hold grudges would not be able to move on and be productive,” she said, emphasizing that despite the snub, she would continue to treat Alabi with the utmost respect.
The controversy began when Alabi, upon discovering that the birthday celebration was for Anjorin, refused to leave her car to perform, prompting the return of the N2.5 million payment made by Anjorin’s fans for her services. While many speculated that there was a deeper issue between the two, Anjorin clarified that there had been no prior conflict. “I have never had issues with her. I have been to her concert before, and I didn’t have an issue with her. I like Aunty Tope, she is my very good sister,” she said, suggesting that the incident may have been a misunderstanding or mistake.
Anjorin, however, stressed that the issue was not personal, but rather with the individuals who had contracted Alabi for the event. “Whatever she has done is between her and God,” Anjorin added, reinforcing that she would still greet Alabi respectfully if they crossed paths in the future.
When Sunday Scoop reached out to Tope Alabi for a comment on the incident, the singer refused to engage and abruptly ended the call, leaving many unanswered questions surrounding the situation.
Despite the confusion, Anjorin’s response highlights her commitment to moving forward and focusing on her own endeavors rather than holding on to past grievances.
