Pregnant Woman Dies After Hospital Allegedly Denies Treatment Over ₦500,000 Deposit

Date:

A pregnant woman in labour has tragically lost her life after allegedly being refused treatment at a private hospital due to her inability to pay a ₦500,000 deposit.

The heartbreaking incident was first shared on Instagram in February by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, and recently resurfaced on social media, sparking outrage.

A viral video shows the expectant mother, Kemi, visibly weak inside a car as her husband desperately tries to keep her conscious. “Kemi, look at me. Stay strong, think about your kids, please,” he pleads in distress.

According to Folajimi, the private hospital refused to commence treatment without the deposit, despite his pleas for urgent care. He stated that he begged the doctors to begin treatment while he sourced the funds, but they allegedly turned them away.

With no other option, they rushed to a general hospital in Epe, but she did not survive the journey.

“The doctor told me to deposit ₦500,000. I begged him to save my wife first while I ran around for the money, but they drove us out like they didn’t care,” Folajimi wrote.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many Nigerians expressing shock and anger over the alleged negligence. Some have called for investigations into the hospital’s actions and urgent reforms in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

As the story continues to circulate, calls for accountability and better emergency medical policies are growing.
