The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two businessmen, Arokodare Ebenezer and Omoruyi Terry, over their involvement in illicit drug shipments between Nigeria, Europe, and the United States.
Ebenezer, the owner of Damillionz Takeout, was apprehended on March 24 at Bay Lounge, Admiralty Way, Lekki, while awaiting a consignment of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis. His arrest followed a March 12 interception of seven large cartons of the drug, weighing 32.24 kilograms, at a Lagos logistics company. A search of his home uncovered additional quantities of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Ebenezer later admitted to being involved in the drug trade since 2017.
Similarly, Omoruyi Terry, an Italy-based businessman, was caught at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to smuggle 1,400 pills of tramadol (225mg) to Italy via a Qatar Airways flight. NDLEA investigations revealed that he was a frequent traveler and a logistics agent for drug trafficking networks.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives raided Godai village in Daura, Katsina State, arresting four suspects and seizing 684 blocks of compressed skunk (423kg) and 86,000 diazepam pills. The suspects were found repackaging the illicit substances for distribution.
Additionally, in Edo State, NDLEA destroyed over 13,000 kilograms of cannabis plantations across multiple locations, including Uhen, Sobe, and Amahor forests, while evacuating 158kg of cannabis for further investigations.
Further drug seizures occurred in Niger, Enugu, Kwara, and Oyo states, including a March 28 interception of 77.6kg of cannabis hidden in a false compartment of a vehicle along the Mokwa-Jebba road in Niger State.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended the agency’s personnel for their continued efforts in combating drug trafficking and reaffirmed NDLEA’s commitment to the War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
