Bayelsa Governor Bans Wike from State, Orders Security Crackdown

Date:

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially declared the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, persona non grata in the state, citing concerns over security and threats to peace.

In a strongly worded national broadcast, a video of which has gone viral, Governor Diri accused certain individuals of attempting to disrupt the state’s peace by organizing a gathering at Tombia Roundabout in honor of Wike.

Expressing firm opposition to the proposed meeting, the governor ordered security agencies to prevent any such gathering, emphasizing that Bayelsa would not tolerate any actions capable of endangering public safety.

“Some persons are threatening the peace of this state, and they want to host the FCT Minister at Tombia Roundabout. That meeting must not hold anywhere in Bayelsa State!” Diri declared.

He further warned against the “importation of insecurity” into Bayelsa, stating that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, had worked tirelessly to maintain peace in the region.

“Don’t import insecurity here. This is not FCT. You are not from Bayelsa State. All service commanders are hereby put on alert,” he added.

Governor Diri reassured residents that his administration remained committed to maintaining law and order, urging security operatives to ensure that Bayelsa’s peace was not compromised.

His declaration comes amid rising political tensions, with speculations that Wike’s visit could be linked to political realignments ahead of future elections.

The FCT Minister, who hails from neighboring Rivers State, is yet to respond to the governor’s remarks. However, political observers believe this development could escalate the already strained relationship between the two prominent South-South politicians.
