Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd), has resigned from office.
The reason for his resignation was not disclosed, but the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has accepted his decision, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
General Idris’ resignation makes him the second commissioner to step down from the Kano State Executive Council in 2025, following the earlier resignation of Mohammed Diggol, the Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Appointed in August 2024 as the first commissioner of the newly created Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, General Idris was instrumental in setting up the ministry’s framework.
Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for his service, highlighting his contributions to Kano State both as a military officer and as a commissioner. He wished him a peaceful retirement, stating that his successor would build on the foundation he had laid for the ministry.
Idris’ resignation comes amid growing discussions on security challenges in Kano and across Nigeria. The state government has yet to announce his replacement.
