37 Yahoo Suspects Nabbed in One Week as EFCC Raids Ilorin Hotspots

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin within one week, intensifying its crackdown on cybercrime in the state capital.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made in separate operations across different locations in Ilorin.

Fifteen of the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, March 26, in the Tanke Oke-Odo area, while 22 others were arrested earlier on Friday, March 22, in the Tanke, Alao Farm Estate, Yidi Road, and Irewolede areas.

Oyewale stated that the arrests followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to fraudulent internet activities. He also disclosed that items recovered from them included eight luxury cars, high-end smartphones, and laptop computers.

“The arrest of the suspects followed credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities. Both arrests brought to 37 the number of suspected internet fraudsters rounded up in Ilorin by the anti-graft agency in a space of one week,” the statement read.

The EFCC has assured that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
