Dangote Refinery Ships Two Million Barrels of Aviation Fuel to America

Date:

The United States has imported over two million barrels of aviation fuel from Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery, marking a significant milestone in the country’s refining and export capabilities.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Dangote refinery confirmed the shipments, describing them as a testament to the “unparalleled quality” of its products and the trust placed in the facility by the international market.

According to ship-tracking service Kpler, six vessels carrying approximately 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel from the Dangote refinery have already arrived at US ports this month. Additionally, another vessel, Hafnia Andromeda, is set to deliver around 348,000 barrels to the Everglades terminal on March 29.

The 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote refinery, the largest in Africa, is rapidly becoming a key player in global fuel trading. The latest exports to the US follow earlier shipments of around 130 million litres of jet fuel to Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the refinery’s ability to compete with European and American refiners.

“This shipment to the United States follows three cargoes of jet fuel exported from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia. The refinery has already shown its competitiveness in gasoline exports to Europe, and these jet fuel deliveries to the US could challenge domestic producers in the world’s largest fuel-consuming nation,” the statement added.

Speaking on the development, economist and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprises, Dr. Muda Yusuf, praised the refinery’s growing global impact.

“Nothing could be more proud for us as a country than the fact that we now have a refinery producing products that are in demand in the United States. It speaks to the quality, standards, and trust that international markets have in the Dangote refinery,” Yusuf said.

The refinery’s growing exports signal a shift in global fuel supply dynamics, potentially positioning Nigeria as a major player in the aviation fuel market.
