Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly set for a summer transfer to the Saudi Pro League, as incoming manager Ruben Amorim lines up replacements.
Onana, 28, has endured a challenging season at Old Trafford, making several costly errors. With interest from Saudi clubs intensifying, United are now open to selling the Cameroonian shot-stopper.
The Red Devils are not the only Manchester club facing a goalkeeping reshuffle. City’s first-choice keeper, Ederson, is also linked with a move to the Middle East. If both transfers materialize, United and City will be in direct competition for replacements.
Among the names on both clubs’ radar are highly-rated young goalkeepers, Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp and Lille’s Lucas Chevalier. The 22-year-old Lammens has impressed in Belgium and is valued at around £30 million, while Chevalier, 23, has been tracked by United and City for months and could be available for £40 million.
Pep Guardiola’s City has already been monitoring Lammens and Chevalier as they prepare for life after Ederson. Meanwhile, Amorim, who is expected to take over from Erik ten Hag at United, has made signing a goalkeeper a priority should Onana depart.
Ederson’s potential exit could also promote Stefan Ortega to City’s No. 1 spot, though the German keeper has hinted he may seek regular football elsewhere.
While Manchester United were not initially planning to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, Onana’s inconsistent performances and growing Saudi interest could force the club into the transfer market.
With both Manchester clubs set to make big moves in the transfer window, a battle for Europe’s top young goalkeepers could be on the horizon.
