Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has praised Nigeria’s performance following their 2-0 win over Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium on Friday.
Speaking after the match, the defender commended head coach Eric Chelle after recording his first win as coach of the team.
“I want to congratulate the coach (Chelle) for his first win,” Troost-Ekong told a media conference after his side’s win in Kigali.
“The game was not easy, but we tried to understand what the coach wanted us to do.”
Troost-Ekong also hailed Victor Osimhen, who scored both goals, describing him as a fantastic player while applauding the team’s overall strength.
Two first half goals from Osimhen ensured Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying returned back on track in the qualifying campaign.
“Osimhen is a fantastic player, but we have a lot of great players,” Troost-Ekong said.
“We had a great game as a team.
“Tolu Arokodare made his debut, and Alhassan Yusuf played as a right-back.”
Troost-Ekong, who played a key role in Nigeria’s solid defensive display, was pleased with the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
He said, “This is one of the best stadiums I have seen in Africa.”
Addressing critics who often label the Super Eagles as “Vibes FC”, he stressed that the team remains committed to working hard and proving themselves.
“People call us Vibes FC, but every day, we want to work hard and prove ourselves.”
The victory lifts Nigeria to fourth place in Group C with six points, as they prepare to host Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, aiming for a second consecutive win in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
