Chelle Proud of Super Eagles After Rwanda win

Date:

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance following their 2-0 win over Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium on Friday.

A first half brace from Osimhen ensured Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying returned back on track in the qualifying campaign.

Chelle, who secured his first victory as Nigeria’s coach, praised the squad’s effort and emphasised the importance of working together to achieve World Cup qualification.

“Every player in the team can play,”Chelle said in a post-match interview.

“We need to work together and achieve the goal of qualifying for the World Cup.

“We have great players.”

Despite limited preparation time, Chelle commended his players for adapting to different tactical setups.

“It was a difficult game; Rwanda has a great team. I am proud of my players’ performance.

We worked a lot within the few days we had—just two full training sessions.

“In the second half, we kept the ball well. It was a good performance from my guys.”

Chelle also revealed that the team experimented with two different systems during the match and acknowledged the need for further improvements.

“It is my joy to set up the system.

“We tried two different systems in the team. We need to improve.

“It is the first game, and we are going back to work for the second game.”

When asked by a Rwandan journalist to analyse the opposition’s weaknesses, Chelle declined to comment.

“I won’t criticise the Rwandan team and talk about them. My job is to talk about my team.”

The victory moves Nigeria to fourth place with six points in Group C, and the Super Eagles will now shift focus to their next qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, as they aim for back-to-back wins.
