The number of representatives on the platform of the People Democratic party in the House of Representatives further reduced on Tuesday as Hon. Husseini Jallo who represents Igabi federal Constituency of Kaduna and Hon. Adamu Tanko, who represents Suleja/Tara/Gurarra federal Constituency of Niger state, announced their defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
The duo hinged their decisions on the “endless crisis” in the PDP.
In a letter read by House Speaker Tajudeen Abass, Jallo said that the lingering crisis and instability in the PDP has hindered his desire to effectively represent and serve his people.
“Mr. Speaker, your leadership style and my belief in the principle of national unity was taken into consideration while taking this decision” he said, while empathizing that he found the APC as a very attractive platform to further his political career in the service of his people.
Jallo becomes the second PDP lawmaker from Kaduna to defect to the APC in recent weeks following the exit of Hon. Amos Magaji.
Similarly, Hon. Tanko said that his defection was well endorsed by his constituents after very wide consultations.
House Minority leader, Hon. Kinsley Chinda expressed his disappointment and opined that the opposition members in the house will continue to speak against the needless defections and the position of the supreme court on such.
He concluded with the prayer to the speaker to declare their seats vacant.
Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Ali Isah also frowned at the development and insisted that there was no crisis in the PDP.
His words ; “The PDP is doing well. There is no crisis. The defected members must take the part of honor and resign.
As a party and as an opposition, PDP is doing well. They must return to their people to seek fresh mandates in their new political party,” he said.
