An explosion has struck a section of the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, intensifying concerns amid the state’s ongoing political crisis.
The blast reportedly occurred late Monday night near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction. A video circulating on social media shows thick black smoke billowing into the sky as a fierce inferno engulfs the surrounding mangrove forest.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, but it comes amid threats from unidentified militants to attack oil installations in the state. The threats followed heightened political tensions in Rivers, raising speculations about possible sabotage.
When contacted, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was yet to confirm details but promised to provide updates after further investigation.
The Trans-Niger Pipeline, a critical crude oil transport facility, has been a frequent target of vandalism and oil theft in the Niger Delta. The latest incident is expected to raise fresh concerns over security and economic stability in the region.
