Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Ola Aina, the Nigerian full-back currently playing for Nottingham Forest, as potential interest grows in the defender’s services.
With speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield, Aina has emerged as a candidate to replace the England international, should he depart the club in the summer.
Aina, who joined Forest as a free transfer in the summer of 2023, has become one of the standout performers for the club this season.
His solid performances have been a key factor in Forest’s push for a Champions League spot under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Off the pitch, the 28-year-old has earned praise for his leadership and contribution to the team’s progress.
The defender’s contract with Nottingham Forest is set to expire at the end of the season, but a 12-month extension is set to be triggered, ensuring he remains with the club for at least another year.
However, discussions over a longer-term deal have yet to yield results, keeping Aina’s future at the City Ground uncertain.
Aina’s contract situation has attracted interest from several major clubs, including Manchester City, Roma, AC Milan, and Galatasaray.
Now, Liverpool have reportedly entered the race, as they monitor the Nigerian’s progress in case Alexander-Arnold seeks a move away from Merseyside.
The Reds are said to be “keeping a close eye” on Aina’s situation and are reportedly confident about their chances of persuading the full-back to sign a long-term deal, should he be open to a move to Anfield.
Clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also believed to be showing interest in Aina, though it is Liverpool who are reportedly most keen on his services.
Aina, for his part, has expressed a strong desire to remain at Nottingham Forest, recently stating that he enjoys his time at the club and hopes to stay longer.
When asked about his future, he said, “I really enjoy it here. I enjoy the staff, the players, the club, the community. Everything about it is a good place, so, yeah, hopefully.”
As the summer transfer window approaches, Aina’s future remains a topic of interest, with multiple top clubs reportedly keen on securing his signature.
For now, however, it remains to be seen whether the Nigerian international will commit to a new deal at Forest or move to one of the clubs tracking him.
